In our fast-paced society where we want instant information and immediate "proof", we are selectively grabbing information, justifications or quick answers. By so doing, we RELY ON/TRUST sources for information that may be skewed or even sources of propaganda. Furthermore, we rarely reflect on what the information MEANS and what we think about it.

What you are showing us by sharing insights into other research and points of view is this: the importance of CONTEXT. In the XXIst century, it is too easy to look "back" and observe events with the lenses of 21st century socio-cultural points of view that can be tainted with religious dogma. In so doing, we stubbornly hold true to what our "beliefs" are while impeding an authentic approach at understanding what was trying to be said in a text at the time it was written.

Historical context is necessary as is understanding the meanings of events within a social/religious situation OF THE TIME.

Yet, the important message I see is the scripture that you highlight:
“I know and am persuaded that in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself.”
~ Romans 14:14

I am persuaded that God loves us as we were created and that he loves us all equally: gays, lesbians, straights, Catholics, Mormons, Buddhists or Muslims or even someone who doesn't have a religious affiliation.

This is where we need to strive to be like him> to love without these being a criteria, and to promote a tolerant society that promotes equal justice and the pursuit of happiness for ALL people.Libellulehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07633236721899345816noreply@blogger.com
