On Authenticity

Each of us possesses a creative self.
Claiming that is a transformational art.
When you begin to act on your creativity, what you find inside may be more valuable than what you produce for the external world. The ultimate creative act is to express what is most authentic and individual about you.

~ Eileen M. Clegg

Everything will line up perfectly when knowing and living the truth becomes more important than looking good.

~ Alan Cohen

Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of someone else.

~ Judy Garland

When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.

~ Charles Evans Hughes

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma –
which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t let the noise of others' opinions
drown out your own inner voice. And most important,
have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
They somehow already know
what you truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary.

~ Steve Jobs

The most common form of despair
is not being who you are…

~ Søren Kierkegaard

Man’s ideal state is realized when he has fulfilled the purpose for which he is born.  And what is it that reason demands of him?
Something very easy –
that he live in accordance with his own nature.

~ Seneca

We are constantly invited to be who we are.

~ Henry David Thoreau

  1. Nice! And may I add these two:

"This above all: to thine own self be true,/And it must follow, as the night the day,/Thou cans't not be false to any man "

    Shakespeare

"Just be yourself and you will do well."

  2. Thank you, thank you for these transformational quotes. Invictus, I really admire your authenticity. I am a man who sits in quiet admiration of your ability to come out and live your genuine self. I wish I had the same courage as you do. . . instead, I feel trapped in my dark closet, alone and afraid. Keep up the good blog!

  3. @Anonymous - I hope that what you feel now will only be temporary, and that you will find in yourself what you need to move forward. Someone has told me, "You don't choose coming out; it chooses you." Or words to that effect. I think there's a lot of truth in that statement. I certainly didn't choose to come out when I did. Circumstances presented themselves when I felt I could no longer go on the way I wasn't. I'm still very much looking for that "genuine self," trying to give him the space he needs to continue coming out.
